The world’s first app for complete, 24-hour kid tracking.

Following the trajectory of our VietnamAdvisors startup series, we proudly tell the story of KidsOnline, an Ed-Tech startup bent on revolutionizing Asia’s kindergarten classrooms. Be sure to also check out our story on Efaisto, the Saigon based startup changing the face of e-commerce fashion, and iCare Benefits, which is helping thousands across Asia experience better tomorrows.

The Problem

Managing a learning ecosystem that encompasses hundreds of students can be a nightmare. Educators have to monitor progress for every student across a plethora of different activities, maintain a log of all their payments (for lunch, field trips, daycare, afternoon snacks, tuition, etc … you get the point), all the while making sure that educational initiatives are deployed effectively. Oh, did we mention that they had to keep the parents happy while juggling that juggernaut of tasks?

The worst part is that most of the above processes are decentralized. Stored (on paper) in different departments across the school, run on legacy systems dating back to the moon landing, and pretty much just messy overall. If a teacher loses a form she has to call a parent again to have them sign it. If a database breaks down, the consequences are even worse. As you can imagine, change is quite necessary.

A Solution on a Glossy Surface

KidsOnline provides a consolidated digital application that works on your phone, tablet, and computer. It allows administrators to keep track of all school operations, student profiles, tuition payments, and much more. Everything is integrated, so educators can keep track of everything involving their students in one digital platform that they do not have to carry around and organize.

The app also allows teachers to communicate with parents and update them on value-added services such as transportation arrangements and community events. The parents can also book the services on KidsOnline. Other parent use cases include checking up on their kids’ attendance records, academic performance, and photos and videos. Neither the teachers nor the parents have to store or download anything, because all data resides on the cloud.

Vietnam’s Appetite For Online Kids

The number of edtech startups in Vietnam grew from 60 to over 100 in 2015. Why? Because Vietnam, like many other Southeast Asian countries, has burning demand for educational degrees. This trend has exploded in recent years because of the inflow of foreign investment and the approval of foreign trade agreements – both of which have increased the appeal of professional and language skill development.

Topica CEO Pham Minh Tuan recently stated that the “education market is seven times the telco market.” On a similar tangent, the rise in smartphone and Internet penetration (which is surging due to the government’s 2020 Broadband Plans) will also make edtech applications more accessible – which in turn enhances their value.

Moving Forward

KidsOnline is one of the 1,000 startups transforming Vietnam from a transitioning economy to an innovative investment destination. They are one of the newest startups to partner with HATCH! VENTURES, Vietnam’s foremost startup ecosystem builder. It is currently participating in HATCH!’s four-month incubation program, where it will be given access to seed funding with total value of $100,000 USD. We recently ran into them at the HATCH! FAIR 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City back in October, where they showcased at a booth and presented a demo pitch. For more information on KidsOnline’s progress, visit their website.
