This week, Aaron Tran takes the world stage as he competes for Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. His event, Short-track Speedskating will be televised on NBC Sports. Go here for schedules and times.

Just a short twelve years ago, 9-year-old Aaron watched the Torino, Italy 2006 Winter Olympic games on television from his home in Federal Way, Washington. He was inspired to become an Olympic speedskater from that time on. Aaron started learning on inline skates before graduating onto the ice four years later. He currently lives and trains with the U.S. national team in Salt Lake City, Utah.

At the age of 17, Aaron competed in the 2014 U.S. Olympic Trials. He fell short of qualifying for the Olympic team but was able to attend the Winter Games courtesy of TD Ameritrade as a special guest. He and several other future Olympic hopefuls were selected to attend as spectators to gain knowledge from the sidelines.

At the 2017 World Championships, Aaron finished seventh with the U.S. men in the 5000m Speed Skating relay. Last December at age 21, Aaron qualified for the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team by finishing second in the men’s 500m, and third overall at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

In his off time, Aaron enjoys spending time with family, playing video games League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League. His musical tastes range from classical to modern, old school pop and K-pop. He would like to earn a degree in Business because he enjoys math and is intrigued with things that help regulate our economy. His favorite foods are donuts and Oreos, but his coaches limit those during the season.
