Vietnam Global Health Care

In addition to booming economic growth and a sprouting start-up scene, Vietnam is also stepping up its efforts in another global issue: healthcare. According to Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Vietnam made notable contributions to global health concerns during the governing bodies of the World Health Organization’s 139th meeting.

Minister Tien, who attended the meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on May 30th, described how Vietnam shared its methods in handling the recent Ebola and MERS-CoV outbreaks that have shaken much of the world.

By placing emphasis on the development of local-level healthcare programs, Vietnam has successfully delivered effective healthcare for the majority of its citizens. The minister states that this approach has helped Vietnam achieve national public health targets and mitigate outbreaks for the aforementioned diseases.

This progress follows closely on Vietnam’s recognition last year as a global leader in “One Health”, a holistic healthcare approach that targets infectious diseases by placing emphasis on treating their origins – the animals that spread them.

Vietnam’s success in this niche of the healthcare space is particularly noteworthy because of its location in Southeast Asia – a continent known as a hotspot for new viruses.

The Minister states that Vietnam will continue contributing to the international healthcare scene, and will garner more global attention for its success in implementing relevant policies.
