Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyen Cong Tri has escalated to rock star status with his iconic outfits created for Rhianna, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry and other celebrities. Cong Tri’s work is in high demand across the globe.
39-year-old Tri studied industrial arts at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture and is a member of the Asian Couture Federation. He has attended leading fashion events in the US, Italy, Japan, and the U.K.
Cong Tri said Rihanna’s stylist emailed him after seeing his collection in Vogue magazine and ordered three designs. He spent four days stitching the pieces from cotton and embroidered silk. The white shirt was worn by Rhihanna, an eight-time Grammy winner, as she introduced her new shoe collection. A striking photo of Rihanna in an oversized couture white shirt received over 1.7 million likes on her Instagram page in just five days. The shirt was from his latest haute couture collection that featured at the Tokyo Fashion Week in March.
Last December Katy Perry wore a leopard-print low-cut jumpsuit in a video posted to her Facebook page and the internet went wild wondering who made it. Tri confirmed the design was his, saying he made it on an urgent order from the singer. “Katy Perry told me she needed an outfit for an upcoming photo shoot,” said the Da Nang-born designer, “so I put in my best effort to finish the jumpsuit and sent it to her in three days.”
During her 2017 Witness world tour, Perry- known for her standout style, dressed in several of Tri’s glamorous designs including a one-legged jumpsuit with an asymmetrical skirt for her concert in Montreal, Quebec.
Gwen Stefani is another high profile customer who has been seen numerous times wearing one of a kind designs from head to toe from Tri.
The talented designer said that Minh Hanh was an early inspiration.
