Vietnamese Film ‘Jackpot’ Submitted to Oscars Foreign Language Committee
October 1, 2015.
Vietnam has chosen the film ‘Jackpot’ as its nomination for this year’s foreign language academy award.
Lead by the Vietnamese-American director Dustin Nguyen, this film stars Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Chi Tai and Nguyen, who is best known as one of the former child stars in the original film ‘21 Jump Street.’
Released last February in Vietnam during the Lunar New Year holiday, ‘Jackpot’ is based on the true story of a poor Vietnamese lottery ticket seller named Lanh, who instead of cashing in a customer’s $300,000 lottery ticket for herself, she displays honesty and gives the rightful owner his rewards. This film shows us an inspiring example of how a person can still display integrity, even in a world of individualistic consumerism.
Dustin Nguyen is currently planning a sequel to ‘Jackpot,’ which will be exploring the same theme in a different story – also based on a real event, he says.
