Active Angel Investors

Our active angel investors are members of the vanguard of Vietnam’s tech renaissance. They are venture capitalists, hedge fund managers, and entrepreneurs who scour Vietnam for startups, including startups we profile here. Louie Nguyen – Soledad Investment Management

Louie Nguyen, CFA is President and Chief Investment Officer of Soledad Investment Management. He has been investing in Vietnam for the last 10 years. He is an investor in HKFilm, producer of Vietnam’s highest grossing film of all time, and Colory, an animation startup. Prior to Soledad, he served as an institutional portfolio manager at Brandes Investment Partners. He spent most of the 90s in Japan as an educator and banker for a German investment bank.

 Eddie Thai – 500 Startups Vietnam Focused Fund

Eddie Thai is a Vietnam-based business guy with 6+ years of experience in strategy and finance for companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 corporations across tech, media, telecommunications, etc. He was recognized in the Forbes Vietnam 30 Under 30 List in 2015 and invited to the World Economic Forum’s Davos conference in 2016. He received degrees from Harvard and Yale. He is currently a venture partner at 500 Startups’ Vietnam Focused Fund.

Binh Tran – 500 Startups Vietnam Focused Fund

Binh Tran is a San Francisco-based technologist and four-time founder with 20+ years of experience. His most recent win was Klout, which pioneered influencer marketing and was acquired in 2014 at a $200 million valuation. He was ranked in Business Insider’s “Silicon Valley 100” list in 2013 and “26 Up-and-Coming Tech Entrepreneurs You Need to Watch” in 2012. He currently serves as a venture partner at 500 Startups’ Vietnam Focused Fund with Eddie.

Shuyin Tang – Unitus Impact Fund

Shuyin is one of the pioneers of impact investing in Southeast Asia and passionate about developing the entrepreneurship sector in the region. She has over 8 years of professional experience spanning strategy consulting (Bain & Company), development consulting (TechnoServe) and impact investing (Unitus Impact, LGT Venture Philanthropy), across Australia, India and Southeast Asia. She currently leads Unitus Impact’s activities in Vietnam and the Phillipines.

Berg Moe – Serial Entrepreneur, Angel Investor, and TedX Speaker

Berg Moe is a Norwegian angel investor, serial entrepreneur, and TedX Speaker. He has over 30 years of experience funding, coaching, and growing companies and great ideas to the next level. His repertoire includes founder or co-founder credits on nine startups, present involvement in three, and a Board Director’s seat at the Oslo Entrepreneur’s Association. He also runs a renowned blog with global circulation to over 8,000 angel investors in cooperation with TechStars.

Ray Apodaca

Ray Apodaca is a long time Vietnam observer and owns a large U.S. construction company which he founded in 1987. He is based in Los Angeles, has investments in Food & Beverage projects and is always on the lookout for new opportunities. Ray is known as a visionary who leads with integrity and provides clear, hands on direction to management teams.
